Wood Digest's first-ever Innovative Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) competition honors superior craftsmanship and creativity in woodworking. The goal is to provide a forum for the best woodworkers in all segments and to provide them with the opportunity to be recognized for outstanding project design and construction.
- Projects considered for IDEA must have been completed between Jan. 1,
2007 and May 15, 2008.
- Entry of a single project under more than one category is permitted as long as each entry
meets each category standards. (For example: You may enter an environmentally friendly kitchen
in both the Green and the a custom cabinetry category.)
- The deadline for entries is June 13, 2008. After entrants have submitted
the entry form — by mail, fax or electronically — and have paid the fee, Wood
Digest will mail a binder outlining the items required from you: images, specs, details
about the project, etc,.
- Entry fee: There is a $75 fee for each entry. If you are submitting one project in multiple categories, you must pay the $75 fee for each additional category.

to become the benchmark for woodworking excellence, submit an entry form today. Here's how
it works:
- Fill out the entry form and send it back with the $75 entry fee per submission or enter online.
- Once the entry has been received, Wood Digest will send you a binder outlining the contest details — nothing too complicated, just a uniform way to submit the details of your project, photography and CAD drawing.
- This binder must be completed and returned by June 30. No deadline extensions.
2008 entries are closed. Check back next spring for the 2009 IDEA Competition.
Projects will be judged by a panel of experts based on the following:
- Aesthetic appeal
- Technical execution
- Attention to detail
- Quality of craftsmanship
- Handling of unusual situations
- Overall impression
Winners will be announced at International Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair® (IWF) in Atlanta, Ga., August 20-23, 2008. Awards will be made for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each of the 13 categories — with a Best in Show recognized across all categories. Judges may elect to award fewer than three awards in each category. They may also make special merit awards. The decisions of the judges are final. Entries will be judged on the following factors: Aesthetic appeal; technical execution; attention to detail; quality of craftsmanship; handling of unusual situations and the overall impression of the work.
In addition to being prominently showcased at the biggest woodworking show of the year, all winners will receive special plaques and will be featured in the October '08 issue of Wood Digest, in WD's IWF Post Show Report, in our sister publications and in various forms of electronic media. The Best in Show winner will receive a special award and will be profiled as the cover story of the October issue of Wood
Digest.
All entries will be considered for possible use in future issues of Wood
Digest.
Deadline for completed submission binders is June 30, 2008. There will
